Diary of a Bad Writer: Not Another New Year’s Resolution

It seems so cliché – posts, tweets, sermons, commercials and movies all taunt the New Year’s Resolution. Personally, I do not make New Year’s Resolutions, but I do take the time to reflect which is the true intent of the resolution concept. Resolutions tend to be synonymous with lack of follow-through.

This year instead of resolutions set intentions. Personal growth and positive change are the reasons people make resolutions, right? So why not set an intention to make those changes. I know – semantics, right? You say tomato – I say tomaaaato…

Maybe it is simply semantics, but intentions are more likely to be accomplished. In yoga, intentions are designed to be your daily focus (you see, not semantics after all). Small bites at the apple so to speak. Isn’t this why listers make lists? To strike through the accomplishments – completed intentions.

Intentions are guiding principles on how you want to be or live – it’s an attitude or lifestyle change. Intentions can be small or large, but should always have a purpose. So, dig deep, readers. Let’s set those intentions every day this year and all the years to come!

Happy New Year!
