No Filter

Nikon D700 + 85mm/1.8 @ ISO 6,400, 1/60, f1.8

I never leave home unprepared. My dinner date with the hubs and my son turned into a restaurant photography session. We were tucked into a sweet little alcove booth, and my eyes kept going to the couple across the way. They were so sweet, talking, smiling, touching each other – just small tiny actions filled with love.

I couldn’t resist. I pulled out my camera – I mean, street photography style can be applied anywhere really – and snapped the photo. My husband whispered, “You’re gonna to get thrown out.”

I just smiled and showed him the photo. Yep, Wow! What a great candid moment. And the best part is – this final version has no filter! I’ve finally progressed from Aperture Priority to shooting on Manual. Digital is exactly the same as shooting film except it is different (I know, weird, right?), but it is true. Same concept, same philosophy, different tools.

Photography is all about light and composition. If you can frame the subject and master the light, you’ve got yourself a keeper of a photo. And there is a truth to the saying that the more you shoot, the better you become. So, here’s to practice!
