Caught

Shot with Nikon D700 + 85mm f/1.8 @ ISO 400, 1/200, f/6.3

Sometimes artists name their photos. I’m not one to do this each and every time – only if a title jumps out at me all at once. This one is entitled “Caught.”

I had a great vantage point on a balcony in a local downtown area. I had been capturing photos across the way in a park, at an adjacent corner coffee shop, and I even caught a great street photo of the building-scape which I may share at a later date. I just happened to realize that directly below the balcony was an outside table of another coffee shop. And that table became of great point of interest for me.

Every time I took a peek, someone new was sitting there. Once during the day, a group of four had a blue print type document draped across the table, pens and pencils in hand, coffees on napkins, heads together collaborating on some project. I have that image as well.

But this was my favorite moment. I had seen her walking around the park, taking her own photos of downtown. I suppose she needed to take a break. So, that’s when I snapped. She was so photogenic that I couldn’t resist, but here’s how I got “this” shot.

I snapped a few pictures of her, then walked to the other side of the balcony. Then I came back. I couldn’t help it – I shot a few more. The balcony isn’t super high up, and my lens is far from quiet. So, you guessed it – I captured a series of images in motion as she turned her head up toward the clicking of my shutter. And there you have it.

This fabulous image truly is the very moment I was caught.
