Chasing Light: Light Wins

I have to say, I have the best husband ever. Not only did he embark on a birthday get-away with me and for me, he also catered to my photographic desires. I had yet to shoot a cityscape and wanted to ensure I had at least one in my portfolio. While I’m sure I can improve on my cityscape skills, I do like how this one turned out.

And the most interesting fact was that I actually rented two lenses just to make sure I was able to grab this shot…yet, I snapped this particular image with my trusty 85mm which is usually on my camera at all times. Don’t get me wrong, I got some great shots with the rented lenses, but I always go back to my 85mm.

The hubs did point out that I’m almost always shooting at night. It may have something to do with my day job and scheduling, but I think it’s probably more likely that I LOVE NIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY! There’s something about catching enough light in the dark to produce a photograph. Why? Because it means LIGHT WINS!

Dr. Martin Luther King said,

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.

And then in Scripture, John tells us,

The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

John 1:5 (NIV)

Light wins – and darkness cannot prevail. This is encouraging! Even in the darkest of moments, light is found. When you look at the photo of the cityscape, you see the light – that’s what draws you into the image. Light on and in the buildings, light reflected on the water, and light in the sky. It may seem that darkness dominates (it is during the darkest moment of the day after all), but you don’t focus on the darkness in the photo – you focus on the light.

Light wins! And from a Biblical point of view, that light is the Light, the Light of the world, Jesus. If you are a believer, then you know that Jesus wins. Jesus wins! Now that’s something to get excited about.

Even in the darkest of times, in the darkest of places, light will prevail. Be encouraged, friends.

For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light!

Ephesians 5:8 (NIV)

Until next time,

Alicia
