Who knew, twice a year in Tampa, Florida, an RV show puts up its roots at the State Fairgrounds. Last month the summer show; the next one will be in the winter (maybe around January??). Well, DH and I decided to explore and possibly get some questions answered. We were not ready for the surprise that awaited us.
A few years ago, we attended the winter show and walked away more confused and overwhelmed than ever. The experience left us drained and feeling as if our dream was squashed.
This time was different. We went in with our eyes wide open. Travel trailer verses motorized RVs. We even had our length, weight, and interior specs in place. Yet we still flip-flopped. First it was a 24 foot Class C, then it was a 24 foot travel trailer, then we stepped into a 17 foot travel trailer with a slide and thought, “We can do this.”
The smaller trailer seemed roomy enough, the features were pretty awesome, and the price was right. This was quite the surprise because we thought that the 24 foot mark was the sweet spot.
A trailer means we need a tow vehicle, so then we started looking at towing vehicles, and holy moly! Used trucks are expensive with the way the market is right now.
And then we went camping – tent camping that is. It was a wonderful weekend, a weekend of discovery. What was discovered, you may be asking…we want to live the van life. We worked hard setting up camp, and then we had t tear it back down. We don’t want to do any of that…no set-up, just enjoy the journey. We want to be able to pull into location, and then, at the drop of a hat and in a short time, pick-up and move. I know a travel trailer could work into that option, but the can life will be even quicker.
And we know exactly what we want – no more than 24 foot, slide out to give a bit more room, a regular Queen walk-around bed (I know what walk around really means, I just don’t want to climb over the hubs to get up), a dinette, and no bunks. We want a backup camera, solar or solar ready, and a cab-over space the cats can play. Yes, you read that correctly, the cats are hitting the road with us. #NoJudgementZone
At this time, we are looking for a used camper, with low mileage, and still has some warranty left in her. Add a bit of character would just be the icing on the cake.
So, there you have it. All that’s left is the search.
And the journey continues,
Alicia
