A few months ago, I found myself reflecting on the old cliché, “The only constant in life is change.” What I didn’t expect was just how profound that change would be.
At the end of May, I was unexpectedly let go from a job I truly loved at a legal office. The news blindsided me and, for a while, it shook both my confidence and my joy. I spent more energy than I should’ve trying to make sense of it all. Eventually, I realized it was time to let go of that chapter and look forward instead of back.
That’s when a long-standing dream resurfaced—one DH and I had talked about for over a decade: living full-time in an RV.
The timing couldn’t have been better. With no job tying me down and the apartment suddenly out of reach without my income, we saw an opportunity in the chaos. I’ve always felt deeply connected to the healing power of nature, and RV life seemed like the perfect path forward.
Now, we didn’t dive into this on a whim. DH and I had been planning and dreaming for years. We’re well aware of the challenges ahead—especially since neither of us is particularly handy. (Thank goodness for YouTube!)
We packed up our beloved little apartment and the two fur babies, downsized our belongings, donated truckloads to Goodwill, and bought our new home on wheels: a 2019 Thor Freedom Elite 22FE.
We have some renovations and upgrades in the works, and we’re eager to hit the road. Thankfully, my mom and stepdad have generously given us a place to set up a home base on their property, complete with full hookups. Soon, we’ll have a leveled gravel pad and a carport to shield the RV from sun and snow.
In the midst of all this, I’m still job hunting—ideally something remote that will help support our lifestyle and build toward retirement.
If you decide to follow our journey, I hope you’ll find a few laughs, some honest moments, and maybe even a little inspiration to chase your own dream—whatever that looks like. Because sometimes, the biggest changes lead to the most unexpected freedoms.
